Frequently Asked Questions About Trade Checker
Trade Checker is a free web tool that reads your broker’s transaction export and turns it into the return, dividends, taxes and fees of your portfolio, without bank access and without a subscription. The six questions on the homepage and the twelve here together cover what visitors most want to know before signing up.
How does Trade Checker calculate my portfolio return?
Through two metrics: the internal rate of return (IRR) via the Newton-Raphson method, verified against Microsoft's official reference example, and the time-weighted return (TTWROR) based on a cached historical price and exchange-rate history.
What's the difference between IRR and TTWROR?
IRR accounts for when you deposited or withdrew money, and answers "how well is my money actually doing." TTWROR deliberately strips out the effect of deposits and withdrawals, making your return comparable to an index.
Does Trade Checker compare me against the market?
Yes, on request, against an MSCI World ETF (iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF, quoted in euros). The simulation invests the same deposits and withdrawals as in your real portfolio, on the same dates, into that ETF.
What are the offsetting pots Trade Checker shows?
The equity pot and the other-assets pot, the same ones your broker keeps. Trade Checker derives both from the realized result of your FIFO-sold positions, year by year, for reconciling against your broker's own display.
Is the Vorabpauschale on accumulating funds captured?
Yes. The corresponding lines from Trade Republic's CSV export are recognized as their own tax item and flow into the annual tax overview.
Does Trade Checker replace tax advice?
No. The tax report is a tool for tracing and reconciling against your annual tax certificate, not tax advice and not a substitute for filing your tax return.
Which brokers and providers does Trade Checker support?
18 providers across five categories: classic brokers and custodian banks, CFD and social-trading platforms, crypto exchanges, and one pension provider plus one aggregator. The full list with each format's quirks is on the brokers page.
Can I import data from several brokers at once?
Yes. You can upload exports from several brokers one after another, then switch between the combined view and individual sources using a filter bar.
Are foreign currencies converted correctly?
Yes, and kept separate by purpose: your cost basis is tracked in the currency you actually traded in, while the live price may be quoted in a different currency. The two are only converted at the moment of comparison, never mixed together.
How current are the prices shown?
Prices come through a keyless Yahoo Finance feed. On the position story page, a today mode additionally shows the intraday trend in five-minute steps.
What happens with a split, merger, or spin-off?
Corporate actions like these are detected automatically from the CSV export and applied to your existing positions, with nothing for you to enter by hand.
Does Trade Checker work on mobile?
Yes, the interface is responsive for phones and tablets and can also be installed as a web app on your home screen.
